agent-generated code now has a default jail. cloudflare's sandbox sdk 1.0, previewed september 18, runs untrusted ai output on containers with a stable sdk instead of your production host.
the question is no longer if agents write code, it's where their code is allowed to run.
Context
Cloudflare's changelog of August 7, 2026 says Sandbox SDK 1.0 was available to preview under the npm @next tag, with the stable package still on the 0.12.x line. The docs say the Sandbox SDK runs isolated work on Cloudflare Containers, and that it first shipped to run untrusted and agent-driven work there. A Cloudflare changelog dated September 30, 2026, after the note, says Sandbox SDK 1.0 is available, and adds Durable Object control of each sandbox container, snapshots in public beta, and per-sandbox image and instance size choice.
The note says previewed September 18, and the first-party preview is dated August 7, 2026, with no September 18 event found. The September 30 availability is later than the note and does not refute it. A stable SDK is not supported at the note's time, when the docs described 1.0 as a preview. No default isolation guarantee or its limits were stated, since isolation is only described as isolated work on Cloudflare Containers. Running on containers is not a blanket safety conclusion for untrusted code.
