agent memory is becoming a markdown file you can read. xai's grok build, updated september 16, records conventions, decisions and project facts as background notes and reads them back in later sessions.
the agent's long-term memory is now a repo you can audit.
Context
The x.ai page Memory in Grok Build, dated 16 September 2026, says Grok Build carries conventions, decisions and project facts from one session to the next, with notes written in the background as you work and read back when you return. After a turn completes, Grok reviews it in the background and records anything durable. Notes are markdown files, one topic per subject, with a workspace scope per project and a global scope for preferences. The /dream command merges notes into topic files and /memory opens a read-only browser of every memory file. Task state, tentative conclusions, secrets and anything the repository or its docs already cover are left out. It is available now and applies to new sessions.
Date, background capture, what is recorded, read-back and the markdown files readable through /memory are first-party and supported. A repo you can audit is not supported as worded: the page says the files are markdown on disk that can be browsed and edited, and does not say they live in the project repository or are version-controlled, and no audit logging was seen. The page is branded SpaceXAI on x.ai. No other agent's memory was compared. That memory is now a repo you can audit is the author's opinion.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
