agent portability just met its export button. openai's devday export tool, out september 10, leaves skeleton code and a manual reconnection job, with no automatic path to the agents sdk or workspace agents.
moving agents between platforms is still a rewrite in disguise.
Context
OpenAI's migration guide for Agent Builder, an undated page, says you can export an Agent Builder workflow as Agents SDK code in TypeScript or Python from the Code dialog and continue in the SDK, or paste the export into ChatGPT to create a workspace agent for Business, Enterprise or Edu, with a preview-then-create step. It says the process does not convert your workflow graph or guarantee that every behavior transfers unchanged, and that apps, auth, publishing and permissions need separate review. OpenAI's Agent Builder guide says Agent Builder is being deprecated and scheduled to shut down on 30 November 2026, and the DevDay page gives OpenAI DevDay 2026 as Tuesday 29 September 2026.
The note's exact no automatic path to the Agents SDK or workspace agents wording is not refuted: the page gives a guided, non-automatic path with stated limits. It does refute a broader reading of no path at all. Skeleton is the author's word. September 10 and a DevDay export were not supported: DevDay is on 29 September, after the note's date, the page is undated, and June snippets suggest the export predates September. This is a migration between OpenAI's own surfaces tied to Agent Builder's shutdown, not cross-vendor portability. That moving agents between platforms is a rewrite in disguise is the author's generalisation.

- A dated first-party note for when the export shipped and any cross-vendor agent-definition format.
