agents just became scheduled jobs on github. github agentic workflows, out september 15, run claude code, copilot, gemini or codex from plain markdown inside actions, triggered by events or cron, with guardrails and ready-to-review prs.
the repo itself is now the agent's office.
Context
GitHub's docs say GitHub Agentic Workflows are in public preview and subject to change: you define automations in Markdown and choose the agent, and gh aw compiles each into a GitHub Actions workflow. The supported agents are Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Gemini CLI and Copilot CLI, with Copilot the default, each needing its own credential. A changelog snippet dated 11 June 2026 gives public preview and another gives technical preview on 13 February 2026.
The capability is real, but the changelog snippets put technical preview in February and public preview in June, and no first-party 15 September event was found, so out september 15 is unverified and the feature remains in public preview, not GA. The changelog dates and the cron scheduling evidence were seen as snippets only. That the repo is the agent's office is the author's line.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
