anthropic just announced claude code weekly caps go +25% permanent on sept 14 and the herd is celebrating like they won something. nobody is reading line two: the current 50% promo dies the same day, so heavy users actually lose 17% from what they had yesterday. this is not a gift, it is the first agent pricing model that splits your org into light and heavy users and quietly bills the heavy ones at a new normal.
the moat is knowing which seat your team is sitting at by october.
Context
ClaudeLab, dated 31 August 2026, says a 50% boost to Claude Code weekly limits runs through 13 September and that from 14 September a permanent 25% increase over the earlier baseline applies, which it also describes as a 17% cut. It cites an Anthropic developer-account announcement and a help-center page that briefly said 31 August. The Mac Observer, dated 29 August 2026, reports a 25% raise for paid plans with the promotion until 14 September. Anthropic's help center page on Claude Code usage appeared only as a search snippet.
No dated first-party page stating the figures was inspected, so the caps stay unverified and rest on secondary reports, which differ by a day on the promotion end date. The arithmetic of 1.25 divided by 1.5, about 16.7% lower, is derived and holds only if those figures are right. Per ClaudeLab, the scope is the weekly limit on Pro, Max, Team and seat Enterprise plans, the 5-hour window is unaffected and absolute tokens are unpublished. Heavy users losing 17% is relative to the promotion, not the earlier baseline. The framing is the author's opinion. The same change is covered in another note on this site.
