anthropic shipping fable 5.1 and mythos 5.1 as the same model with two safety tiers is the most important ai release of the quarter and almost nobody is talking about it.
capability is commoditized now — the actual product is which cage your regulators will let you run it in.
Context
Anthropic's page says Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1 are the same model with different levels of safeguards. Fable 5.1 is generally available. Mythos 5.1 is available only through trusted access programs, with safeguards designed to support cybersecurity and life sciences work. The page also says Fable 5.1 will cost an estimated 25 percent less than Fable 5 for typical workloads.
The page describes the tiers as safeguards and access programs, not as defined by regulators, so the regulatory cage is the author's framing. Almost nobody is talking about it has no source, and most important release of the quarter and capability is commoditized are the author's opinion.
