apple just started grading your app against its neighbors. app store connect added peer-group benchmarks for download-to-paid conversion and revenue per download on september 16, using differential privacy so nobody sees your numbers raw.
app profitability is now a public scoreboard.
Context
Apple's news item of March 1, 2023 announced peer group benchmarks in App Analytics, which group apps by App Store category, business model and download volume. Apple's current help page lists metrics including Day 35 Download to Paid Conversion and Day 35 Proceeds per Download, says peer group values use differential privacy, and limits the data to users who agreed to share app analytics with developers. Apple calls the benchmarks directional insight and not an exact ranking.
The benchmarks have existed since 2023. No Apple source dated September 16, 2026 adding the two named metrics was found, and the current help page is undated, so it does not show when they were added. This is a developer analytics view and no badge or enforced policy is described, so grading is the author's framing and it is directional analytics and not an enforced rank. The September 10, 2026 App Store Connect release notes entry seen was not about benchmarks.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
