background agents need a mailbox, so aws built one. pizza bot is an open-source inbox that collects results and pending decisions from agents running while you're away, built on deepagents and langgraph.
the agent ui is becoming a mail client.
Context
The AWS Open Source Blog of 10 September 2026 introduces Pizza Bot, an open-source inbox for AI agents that work in the background. It has All, Unread and Action queues, is self-hosted with no telemetry, and runs as an Electron desktop app, in the browser or in a terminal. Agents are built with DeepAgents on LangGraph, with providers including Anthropic, Amazon Bedrock, Gemini, OpenAI, OpenRouter and Ollama. The post says it began inside Amazon, where more than 2,000 people used earlier versions.
The post says Pizza Bot is a community project rather than an AWS service, with no AWS support or service-level agreement, so the note's AWS built one is limited to AWS engineers publishing it. The repository's ownership was not inspected. That the agent interface is becoming a mail client is the author's thesis; the AWS post argues an inbox suits background work better than chat.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
