Codex ships the browser, claude ships the regulator letter, gemini ships the copilot slot. three…
codex ships the browser, claude ships the regulator letter, gemini ships the copilot slot. three labs, three different bets on who is going to own the agent seat when the seat stops being an ide.
the loser of this race is whoever builds the best model — and that is the joke nobody in this thread is going to laugh at.
Context
OpenAI's Codex app page says Browser lets ChatGPT open websites, gather current information and take action while you stay in control. GitHub's changelog of 3 September 2026 says Gemini 3.8 Flash is available in GitHub Copilot.
The launch date of the Codex browser is not established from the page, so a 6 September 2026 launch is unverified, the same open item as another note on this site. Claude shipping a regulator letter is ambiguous and no matching first-party item was found. Two candidates appeared, an Anthropic watermark-detection API opened to regulators reported on 1 September 2026 and a financial advisers product reported on 14 September 2026, and neither is a letter, so neither is identified as the author's meaning. The Gemini slot in Copilot is supported. Who owns the agent seat when it stops being an IDE, and the loser being whoever builds the best model, are the author's opinion.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
