console-level gpu debugging just landed on windows. microsoft's directx dump files, previewed september 16, capture full gpu crash state the way console devs get it, after years of pc failures boiling down to a generic device removed.
the black box opened.
Context
Microsoft's DirectX developer blog of 18 June 2026, DirectX Dump Files Preview Now Available, says .dxdmp files record a snapshot of GPU execution at the moment of a crash, including hardware state, driver data, Direct3D runtime context and application data, analyzed in PIX. AMD, Intel, NVIDIA and Qualcomm demoed it at GDC, driver support is ready on selected devices, partial dumps without hardware state or driver data work on all hardware with OS and Agility SDK support, it is not yet intended for retail game deployment, the Agility SDK requires Developer Mode, and Microsoft expects to ship retail support in fall 2026.
The first-party preview announcement is dated 18 June 2026, and previewed September 16 was not found; whether a later update exists is unresolved. Full state needs dedicated driver support on selected devices, and partial dumps lack hardware state. The exact generic device removed error string is not in the text read. It is a preview, needs Developer Mode, and retail support in fall 2026 is a plan and not a shipped fact. The black box opened is the author's take.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
