enterprise cowork agents just grew browser hands. microsoft's copilot cowork now runs with gpt-5.5 and browser use to automate work across the web, plus a cheaper fine-tuned cowork 1 model for everyday tasks.
the second agent you hire is a budget model.
Context
Microsoft's general availability post of 16 June 2026 says Copilot Cowork at launch runs on Anthropic models, that in Frontier customers can use GPT 5.5 with Cowork 1 coming soon, that Cowork 1 is a secure fine-tuned model releasing in the coming weeks at a substantially lower cost, and that in Frontier Cowork can browse the web through a local Edge browser. Microsoft's docs say browser automation runs in Edge on the device in a hidden tab with the user's existing sign-ins, and that other browsers are not yet supported. The what's-new page says local browser use moved from Frontier to general availability in August 2026. The models page of 14 September 2026 lists GPT 5.5 as Frontier.
GPT 5.5 and browser use were in Frontier at the June launch and browser use became generally available in August. Whether Cowork 1 has shipped is unverified: it was not in the lines read of the models page. The browser use is limited to Edge. The items are dated before the note. The second agent you hire is a budget model is the author's take.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
