every coding agent bill is quietly becoming a claude bill. anthropic holds about 54% of enterprise ai coding spend and claude code passed a $15b annualized run rate by august, while uber engineers burned $500 to $2000 a month each in tokens after adoption jumped from 32% to 84% in four months.
the seat-price era is over; the real toll booth is metered tokens.
Context
Menlo Ventures' 2025 enterprise generative AI report, dated 9 December 2025, estimates Anthropic at 54% of the coding market against 21% for OpenAI, up from 42% six months earlier, within a 4.0 billion dollar enterprise coding category. TickerTrends, a tracker, estimated Claude Code's tracked annualized revenue at 15.12 billion dollars as of 10 August 2026. Forbes of 17 May 2026 reports Uber rolled out Claude Code in December 2025, adoption rose from 32% of engineers in February to 84% classified as agentic coding users by March, and monthly cost per engineer averaged 150 to 250 dollars, with power users between 500 and 2,000.
The 54% is an investor's estimate of share from 2025, and Menlo footnotes Anthropic as a portfolio company; it is share, not spend. The 15 billion is a third-party estimate, not an Anthropic figure. The 500 to 2,000 dollars is the power-user range, not each engineer's cost, and the 32% to 84% rise took about one month, not four; the four months refers to Uber using up its 2026 AI budget, per Fortune. No tier prices were read, so the seat-price era is over and the toll booth line are the author's opinion.
