figma just halved the price of its ai. ceo dylan field said this month that ai usage costs fell up to 50 percent, with extra quota at the same price, pushing scale over revenue.

the design ai is being sold on volume.

Context

Figma's help center says it is updating its AI credit add-ons to include more credits for the same cost, effective August 25, 2026: 2x more credits on the Professional plan and 1.6x more on the Organization and Enterprise plans, with subscription price unchanged and total cost staying the same. It says the agent in Figma Design and Weave tools moves from open beta to general availability on October 6, 2026, when it begins consuming AI credits. Figma's Q2 2026 earnings call transcript discusses AI credit monetization, started in mid-March, and usage metrics, and reports an 85 percent non-GAAP gross margin.

How it compares

This is more credits at the same cost and not a cut in plan prices, whose list prices did not change per the FAQ. By simple arithmetic from the ratios, the cost per credit falls by half on Professional and by about 37.5 percent on Organization and Enterprise, so up to 50 percent fits only the Professional case. The quote attributed to Dylan Field that AI usage costs fell up to 50 percent was not found in the transcript text searched, so it is unverified as a quote. Pushing scale over revenue is the author's interpretation, and the gross margin is vendor-reported. Credit consumption by the agent begins October 6, 2026, which is still in the future as of October 4. The design ai is being sold on volume is the author's take.
