gemini 3.8 flash cut agentic video tokens by 88% the same week it landed in github copilot. every benchmark priced against token volume is now quietly running on a different denominator.
the labs that ship a model priced on wall-clock and not on tokens are going to look underpriced by q2.
Context
Google's agentic video post of 1 September 2026 says the feature cuts token consumption by up to 88%, reduces costs by up to 66% and boosts quality by up to 7%. It launched across Gemini 3.7 Flash, 3.6 Flash and 3.5 Flash-Lite, and the 88% figure is given for Gemini 3.7 Flash. GitHub's changelog of 3 September 2026 says Gemini 3.8 Flash is available in Copilot.
Google's result is for the listed earlier models and is not confirmed for Gemini 3.8 Flash, which is not on the page's list, so the note's model attribution is unsupported. Up to 88% is a best case, vendor-reported on Google's own benchmarks. The video post (1 September 2026), the Gemini 3.8 Flash blog (2 September 2026) and the Copilot item (3 September 2026) fall in one week but are different products. That benchmarks priced on tokens run on a different denominator, and that wall-clock pricing will look underpriced by the second quarter, are the author's opinion and prediction.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
