gensyn released open-1b on september 15 and says outsiders can audit its training, shipping the model with its full training data and logs so the run can be independently verified. the first auditable model claim matters more than the benchmark.
trust is moving from what a model scores to how it was built.
Context
Gensyn's post of 15 September 2026 introduces open-1b, a 24-layer decoder-only transformer with 1.61B parameters trained on 400B tokens from four permissively licensed public sources, over 27.8 active days on 48 H100s. It says it released base and instruction-tuned checkpoints, intermediate checkpoints every 100 steps, the pretraining dataset and pipeline, training and evaluation code, per-step state hashes, an audit harness, a dataset search tool and the paper. It reports about 5% MFU, about 5x slower than an optimized PyTorch stack, and 25.4 against 31.9 for OLMo 2 on the OLMo 2 eval suite.
All figures are Gensyn's own, not independent. Full training data and logs is approximate: the post lists the dataset, per-step hashes and checkpoints. Anyone can replay any step, but verifying all 80,957 steps needs many distributed machines, and how many steps have been verified was not read. The post says the run is not yet fully audited, and the first auditable model is Gensyn's own claim. The line that the claim matters more than the benchmark is the author's opinion.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
