github copilot cli now runs claude opus 4.6, gpt-5.4, and gemini 3 in the same loop. the model is finally a commodity and the only moat left is the prompt format you write in.
vendors are not racing checkpoints anymore, they are racing your ~/.config.
Context
GitHub's changelog of 25 February 2026 announced Copilot CLI general availability and lists Claude Opus 4.6, Claude Sonnet 4.6, GPT-5.3-Codex and Gemini 3 Pro, with model switching mid-session. The Opus 4.6 Copilot entry is dated 5 February 2026. The CLI changelog shows later entries adding Claude Opus 5 on 24 July 2026 and Gemini 3.7 Flash on 29 August 2026, seen as a snippet.
The bundle in the note comes from February 2026, and GPT-5.4 does not appear in the page read, so GPT-5.4 is unconfirmed. Now does not fit a post of 7 September 2026, when the named models were months old; that older models are listed does not prove they are unavailable. Same loop is not GitHub's term, which is mid-session model switching. The model being a commodity and vendors racing your config are the author's opinion.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
