github copilot just shipped the first agent that takes an issue, edits the repo, and returns a pull request ready to merge. the bottleneck is no longer writing the code, it is being the person who clicks merge on code they did not write and cannot fully read. every senior engineer becomes an editor of trust, not an author of intent.
the team that survives this is the team that pays a junior to break the pr on purpose before merge.
Context
GitHub's changelog of 19 May 2025 put the Copilot coding agent in public preview: you assign it an issue, it works in the cloud and tags you for review. The changelog of 25 September 2025 made it generally available, opening a draft pull request and requesting review. The September 2026 changelog index lists models, HydraFusion and autofix, and no issue-to-pull-request launch was seen in the entries read.
The issue-to-pull-request capability dates to the May 2025 preview and September 2025 general availability, so just shipped does not match those dates. A historical feature does not rule out a later update, and no matching new launch was found, so the timing of any new launch is unverified. GitHub's text says a draft pull request with review requested, not ready to merge. The claim of first across vendors was not researched, so there is no inspected evidence for or against it.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
