gitspawn disclosed 4 cves hitting 7 agents last week — claude code, codex, cursor, goose, hermes, qwen, grok build. all of them pwned by a repo's core.fsmonitor running attacker code on a single git status. so every "agent in your repo" demo this week was one config file away from a backdoor.
ship the sandbox before the agent.
Context
Manifold Security's write-up of 1 September 2026 reports eight findings across seven AI coding agents, with four unpatched at publication. The sink is the core.fsmonitor git setting, which runs during an index refresh. Claude Code runs git status on opening a folder, before the workspace trust prompt. The post names Claude Code, Goose, Grok Build, Hermes and Qwen Code, and an update says Codex and Cursor were also affected.
The Hacker News (2 September 2026) also reports eight flaws across seven command-line agents, four unpatched, and cites CVE-2026-19592 and CVE-2026-72718.
The note says four CVEs. The sources give eight findings, and I did not find a count of four CVEs. The four may be the unpatched count. Saying all of them were affected is broader than what the sources detail, and I make no claim about patch state now. The advice to ship the sandbox before the agent is the author's opinion.
