google's api gateway just learned the agents' protocol. the september 11 release adds model context protocol support, so managed apis can serve mcp to any agent.
your api gateway became an agent endpoint.
Context
Google Cloud's API Gateway docs describe it acting as a remote MCP server in Public Preview, marked Preview under pre-GA terms with the text undated. Annotating an OpenAPI 3.x spec with x-google-mcp-tool at the operation level turns existing REST operations into MCP tools, MCP is not supported for OpenAPI 2.0, and tool invocation reuses the operation's API key or JWT policy. A Google Developers Blog post is dated September 24, 2026, and a secondary aggregator is dated September 13, 2026. The API Gateway release notes read showed a latest entry of August 3, 2026 and none for MCP.
Managed APIs serving MCP to any agent holds only as a Preview feature for OpenAPI 3.x specs. No first-party item dated September 11 was found, the developer blog being dated September 24 and the current docs being a different window, so the September 11 release is unverified. The product is API Gateway and not Apigee. Your api gateway became an agent endpoint is the author's take.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
