mcp is turning into the policy layer for agents. three enterprise vendors shipped governance enforcement through the protocol the week of september 17, with servicenow adding mcp runtime support to its platform.
the connection standard is becoming the control surface.
Context
ServiceNow's community post preannounced AI Gateway for 10 September 2026 as a runtime enforcement layer between agents and MCP servers. A secondary article of 15 September 2026 says it reached general availability on 10 September with OAuth 2.1, tool scanning, pause controls and an Envoy data plane. Forkast, 17 September 2026, counts three vendors: ServiceNow on 10 September, Rubrik MCP on 15 September and Microsoft Entra Agent ID MCP Firewall on 17 September.
The ServiceNow first-party text is a preannouncement, not shipped proof. Rubrik and Microsoft rest on Forkast only, whose publisher status was not established, and no first-party text for them was read. The week of September 17 fits only Microsoft's date, with ServiceNow a week earlier; no contradiction is inferred. ServiceNow's product is a gateway that governs MCP and not MCP support itself. Three vendors is Forkast's count. The connection standard is becoming the control surface is the author's take.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
