meta open-sourced astryx, its react design system from eight years of internal use, with 150+ components and mcp tooling so agents can build with it. the design system stopped being documentation and became an api for agents.
the ui of the future is a component registry agents know how to call.
Context
Meta's Astryx blog post of 18 June 2026 says Astryx is open source and now available in Beta, with 150 or more accessible components built on React and StyleX, matured within Meta for the last eight years, and powering over 13,000 apps. The GitHub repository is MIT licensed and marked as currently in beta, for React 19 and up.
The open-sourcing dates from 18 June, three months before the note. Eight years and 150 or more components are first-party; 13,000 apps is Meta's own claim. The blog heading says it is built for people and the agents building alongside them, but an MCP statement was not located in the text read, so MCP tooling is unverified. The note does not mention that it is in beta. That the design system became an API for agents is the author's opinion.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
