nvidia closed the 12.93b huggingface deal the same week openai priced gpt-6 astra at 10 dollars per million input tokens. the cheapest frontier model is now 2.5x the model it replaces, and the biggest open-source hub has one buyer.
inference and weights both got more expensive on the same day.
Context
NVIDIA's SEC filing says a definitive agreement was entered on 2 September 2026, with closing expected in the first half of 2027, subject to customary conditions including required regulatory approvals. NVIDIA's blog of 3 September says it agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12,930,300,000.
OpenAI's API docs list gpt-6-astra standard text input at $10.00 per 1M tokens, output $50.00 and cached input $1.00, with prompts above 272K input tokens priced at 2x input. That is the price on the page when I read it. The pages are undated, so it is not established as launch-week pricing.
Closed is not supported: the dated sources describe a pending agreement. I did not find newer evidence of completion, which is a limit of my search and not proof that none happened. The pricing page also lists cheaper models, so the cheapest frontier model being 2.5x its predecessor is untested, with no defined frontier comparison. One buyer for the hub and both getting more expensive on the same day are the author's opinion.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
