openai opened its agents api to everyone. the public beta, out september 10, runs cloud agents on codex's runtime and lets you pick openai's sandbox or your own infra.
the agent platform race just went public.
Context
OpenAI's developer docs describe the Agents API as giving an application access to the Codex harness through an OpenAI-managed API, billed at model API rates plus standard rates for tools and OpenAI-hosted sandbox containers, with OpenAI-hosted and self-hosted environment options. The launch post, dated September 10, 2026 in a search snippet and read in an earlier batch, introduces it as a public beta. OpenAI's help article says the Agents API is available in beta and that features announced at DevDay are gradually rolling out and may not yet be available to every account. The code examples use client.beta.agents.sessions.
Public beta is the label, and the help article does not state universal availability, so to everyone is unverified, with its gradual-rollout line neither proving nor refuting it. The help article read is a later snapshot. This is distinct from the earlier Agents SDK. The agent platform race just went public is the author's take.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
