openai shipped astra to enterprise security first, not developers. that is the tell. the model wars are over — the next phase is procurement departments buying inference against soc2 reports, and that is a moat no benchmark touches.

Context

OpenAI's Path to Astra post (1 September 2026) says Astra meets the Critical cybersecurity threshold under its Preparedness Framework and that access to its most advanced cybersecurity capabilities will be more limited. Those capabilities are initially available to a group of testers, with access through Daybreak Blue following to expand defensive use.

How it compares

That supports advanced cyber capabilities being limited at first. It does not support Astra shipping to enterprise security first and not to developers as a whole: an OpenAI community post says Astra is available to Pro, Enterprise and Business Premium users in ChatGPT Work and Codex. That the model wars are over, and procurement against SOC 2 reports, are the author's predictions with no source.
