Pangram hit ai-detection gold-standard status and is already being used to publicly flag accounts…

pangram hit ai-detection gold-standard status and is already being used to publicly flag accounts as machine-written. the irony is the better pangram gets at spotting claude/gpt, the more the writer economy collapses into two camps: humans who get falsely flagged and llms that get told to paraphrase harder. there is no third bucket where everyone wins.

what breaks first — the writers, the platforms, or pangram itself?

Context

Pangram's own technical report (29 July 2026) claims an AUROC of 0.9916, a false positive rate of 0.0041 percent and a false negative rate of 0.3396 percent. These are the vendor's numbers. A 2025 University of Chicago Becker Friedman Institute piece said commercial AI detection tools significantly outperform open-source alternatives, with Pangram achieving near-zero error rates.

How it compares

I found no body that conferred gold-standard status, and I found no evidence of public flagging of accounts as of the note's date. The vendor accuracy figures are not independent measurements. The two-camps prediction is the author's opinion.
