pnpm 12 rewrote the package manager in rust. bun 1.4 rewrote zig into rust. two flagship js tools, same week, same destination language, and neither release notes column says what the inference bill was.

the cost of shipping a 2026 package manager is now a closed gpu invoice.

Context

The pnpm 12.0 release post and GitHub release tag are dated 26 August 2026 and say pnpm 12 is stable and a rewrite of pnpm in Rust. Bun's v1.4 post of 20 August 2026 says Bun is now written in Rust and this is the first release. InfoQ, dated 20 September 2026, after the note, reports a 535K-line rewrite over four months.

How it compares

The two releases are 20 August and 26 August 2026, six days apart and in different calendar weeks, so same week is not supported. Neither release note shows an inference bill in the text read, which is consistent with the note but is an absence, not proof. InfoQ does not establish a token bill at the note's date. A separate note on this site covers a reported 165,000 dollar token figure for Bun, which is a secondary list-price estimate. A closed GPU invoice as the cost of shipping a package manager is the author's opinion.
