pull requests are about to become optional. zed's delta, in public beta since september 16, replaces prs with a multiplayer environment where agents and humans work the same branch.
the review round-trip just became a shared session.
Context
Zed's blog post, Replacing Pull Requests with Delta, by Nathan Sobo, September 16, 2026, says Delta is a multiplayer environment for coding with agents and reviewing what they build, in public beta from September 16, 2026, on macOS, Linux, Windows and the web, and free during the public beta with paid plans coming and a free version always available. Teammates join an agent thread and see the same worktrees, a review subthread has its own isolated copy of the parent thread's worktrees, and fixes made in review can be folded into the parent thread before landing. It says Delta is built on DeltaDB, extends Git's content-based versioning, and stays Git-compatible, and that PRs were turned off on Delta's own repository where 33 people landed 570 changes to main, a company self-report.
The post describes shared threads and worktrees and does not say agents and humans work the same branch. PRs are removed in Delta's own repository only, while zed-industries/zed stays on GitHub for now and contributors keep submitting through GitHub, so the wider replacement is a stated direction and not a shipped industry change. CI, content-based builds and Git storage in DeltaDB are described as longer term and not shipped. Review round-trip just became a shared session is the author's take.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
