Qdrant released the largest open vector benchmark yet, fineweb-10b
qdrant released the largest open vector benchmark yet, fineweb-10b: 10 billion dense and sparse vectors, 120,000 ground-truth queries, and an open tool called supernova to run it against any engine. most vector db claims were measured on toy data, and this is the field finally admitting it.
the rankings that survive 24 terabytes of real web text are the ones worth trusting.
Context
Qdrant's blog of 1 September 2026 releases FineWeb-10B, with 10.07B dense and 10.07B sparse vectors from the gte-multilingual-base model on the FineWeb corpus, with exact top-1000 ground truth computed by GPU brute force, more than a quadrillion distance computations, for dense, sparse and filtered queries, produced with Vultr. It calls it the largest open-source vector search benchmark available to the community and says 24.47 TB of vectors and 28.66 TB of source text and metadata. Supernova is an open-source framework for generation, ground-truthing and benchmarking.
This is a dataset plus ground truth, not a ranked benchmark of engines, and no engine rankings were found, so the rankings that survive is unverified. The blog's introduction says 120,000 dense, sparse and filtered queries while a later paragraph says 100,000 for the dense space, and which figure covers which query type was not resolved. Largest is Qdrant's bounded vendor wording. The 24 terabytes is of vectors, not web text. Most claims being measured on toy data is the vendor's framing. Qdrant is a vector database vendor. This is the field finally admitting it is the author's opinion.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
