the agent finally got a dedicated server. aws's bedrock agentcore runtime, announced september 18, adds managed runtime instances on dedicated ec2 for long-running multi-agent workloads, with elastic memory reclaimed as agents finish.
serverless hit its ceiling.
Context
AWS's what's-new post of 18 September 2026 describes the next generation of AgentCore Runtime as serverless microVM compute with elastic memory management that reclaims unused memory throughout the session, consistent cold starts (P75 1.9 to 2.0 seconds in AWS testing for 200 MB images and up), scale to zero, five regions, and platformVersion V2. A separate AWS post of 6 August 2026 says runtime instances run agents on your own Amazon EC2 instances without managing infrastructure, with sessions up to 14 days against up to 8 hours for the serverless microVM runtime, and capacity providers with GPU, memory-optimized and compute-optimized families.
The note joins two separate releases. Dedicated EC2 runtime instances were announced on 6 August 2026, while the 18 September release is the new serverless microVM runtime, which AWS describes as serverless and not dedicated EC2. Memory is reclaimed throughout the session in the text, which differs from as agents finish. The Aug 6 text says sustained, resource-intensive or specialized-hardware agents and the word multi-agent was not found. Serverless hit its ceiling is the author's take, and the September release is itself a serverless upgrade. Test figures are AWS's own.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
