the ai act stopped being a slide deck. since august 2, enforcement is live, and lawyers say the first regulator letter is the opening move of your defense, not a paperwork exercise.
compliance now runs on the critical path.
Context
The European Commission's AI Act page says that from 2 August 2026 the AI Office and Member State authorities are responsible for implementing, supervising and enforcing the Act, that the AI Office holds enforcement powers over general-purpose AI models and can request technical documentation, evaluate models, require corrective measures and issue fines, and that the Act entered into force on 1 August 2024 and became applicable on 2 August 2026 with some exceptions. Taylor Wessing's article of 19 August 2026 says enforcement is live since 2 August, with fines up to 3 percent of worldwide turnover or 15 million euros for general-purpose AI infringements, and advises treating AI Office correspondence as a formal regulatory matter.
Enforcement being live is first-party but scoped: the Commission page ties 2 August 2026 mainly to the AI Office's powers over general-purpose models and Member State supervision, and says rules for Annex III high-risk systems apply from 2 December 2027 and for product-embedded systems from 2 August 2028 under the AI Omnibus. The legal text was not read. The lawyers say line rests on one law firm article written for the automotive sector, and its advice is not a legal requirement. Opening move of your defense is the note's paraphrase.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
