the coordinator is the new senior developer. cursor projects ships a coordinator agent that doesn't write code, it plans, delegates to subagents, and keeps context over months of work, launched sept 10.
the agent that manages agents is now the product.
Context
Cursor's post of 10 September 2026 launches Projects, which it says maintains context over months of work, delegates tasks to thousands of subagents and performs recurring work without being prompted, with a coordinator that does not write code itself but directs agents that do. It is cloud by default, has shared context files and subscriptions such as a Slack channel, a schedule or following PRs, and is in beta rolling out to all users from that day. Cursor reports that new users merge 30 percent more PRs and users who primarily use Projects merge six times as many.
The merge figures are Cursor's, with no method, population or baseline in the text read, and merged PRs do not measure quality or seniority. The post describes engineers reviewing and directing and the coordinator reducing review as fixes hold; it does not show that a coordinator replaces a senior role. That the coordinator is the new senior developer is the author's thesis. A vendor launch post, in beta.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
