the javascript security numbering authority just went on holiday. the openjs foundation's cna, the cve issuer for the js ecosystem, pauses security operations from september 17 to october 6 for maintainer rest.

the vulnerability machine needs maintenance too.

Context

The OpenJS Foundation's post of September 11, 2026 says its CNA, a CVE Numbering Authority, will pause its security operations from September 17 to October 6, 2026, both dates included, and return on October 7. It gives volunteer burnout driven by a surge of AI-generated vulnerability reports, many of them low signal, as the reason. Reports and requests are queued and escalations reviewed after the break, existing channels stay open without response expectations, and an emergency exception covers actively exploited or critical issues through the security channel on the OpenJS Slack.

How it compares

This is the OpenJS Foundation's CNA and not the whole CVE system. As of October 4, 2026 the announced pause is still in progress through October 6, and the return on October 7 is scheduled and has not been observed. The Express project posted its own notice on September 9, seen as a snippet. Went on holiday is the author's framing. The vulnerability machine needs maintenance too is the author's take.

Watch next

  • A return to service notice and a queue backlog statement after October 7.
