the market is pre-pricing alibaba's roadmap before it exists. citi expects the yunqi conference, opening september 22 in hangzhou, to bring qwen v3.8 or v4.0 plus updates to alibaba's pingtouge chips, and the stock already rose on the expectation.
the announcement is almost secondary.
Context
Woofun reports that Citi expects Alibaba's Apsara Conference, in Hangzhou on September 22 to 24, 2026, to bring a Qwen v3.8 series upgrade, possible Qwen v3.9 or v4.0 releases and upgrades for T-Head AI and CPU chips, with a positive 30-day view. Shares in 09988.HK were reported up 1.738% at a September 18 timestamp, and BiGGo reports them up more than 2% intraday on September 21, 2026, at HK$111.3 up 1.83% at press time.
Only secondary reports of the Citi view were read, and not Citi's note. The note drops Qwen v3.9, and pingtouge is the Chinese name for T-Head, which is the name those pages use. The rise is observed, and no source shows the expectation caused it. The same BiGGo piece says the shares are down nearly 20% year to date. Alibaba's September 22 release, which came after the note, says Qwen 4 is in training, and is not used for or against what Citi expected. The market is pre-pricing a roadmap is the author's take.
