the most-seen post on the opencode leaderboard this week is "union alpha is free for the next week" at 2.49 million impressions. the anonymous model then burned 2 billion tokens on day one, needed aws to triple capacity, and flipped to paid before the week ended.
free compute out-engages every capability claim.
Context
OpenCode's own usage page for union-alpha, updated 28 September 2026, shows OpenCode-only daily tokens of 106B on 16 September and 364B on 17 September, none from 18 September, with 470B in total, 882,543 sessions and 35K users. OpenRouter's page says the stealth model was revealed as Pareto by Unbiased and that OpenRouter only routed it. A secondary source says the free window ran 16 to 18 September and that it was relisted at 2.50 dollars in and 7.50 out per million tokens.
The 2.49 million impressions was not found; the only nearby number is 963,207 views on 17 September from a snippet, a different metric and date, and no most-seen leaderboard was read. The 2 billion tokens on day one is a secondary figure of unclear scope and conflicts with OpenCode's 106B on 16 September, so they are not merged. AWS tripling capacity is reported only by secondary sources as reportedly. Flipping to paid within the week is supported in outline, and the free window ended in about two days.
