the open-source coding agent just crossed the 68% line. all hands shipped openhands 1.0 on september 8, scoring 68% on swe-bench verified with docker sandboxing and a bring-your-own-model setup.

the gap to the closed agents is now a rounding error.

Context

The OpenHands 1.0.0 release tag on GitHub is dated 16 December 2025 and says it is built on the new software-agent-sdk. The repository README lists a Docker sandbox option and bring your own model with any LLM. An OpenHands blog from April 2025 reports 60.6 percent on SWE-bench Verified with a single rollout and 66.4 percent with five attempts, on a different setup.

How it compares

Docker sandboxing and bring your own model are supported by the README. Shipped 1.0 on September 8 conflicts with the first-party release tag of 16 December 2025; later 1.x releases exist, which is a different window and not a refutation of anything else. The 68 percent on SWE-bench Verified was not found in any first-party text with a configuration and model, so it is unverified; secondary snippets do not change that. The gap to closed agents is a rounding error is the author's opinion.
