the terminal finally treats agents as first-class citizens. microsoft's intelligent terminal 0.2.2572, out september 14, lands automatic approval for supported agents, api keys for local models and native slash commands in one release.

the shell stopped being a spectator to agent runs.

Context

Microsoft's Windows Command Line blog of 14 September 2026, Intelligent Terminal 0.2.25, lists over 60 fixes and improvements, API key support for local models, automatic approval for supported agents and native slash commands an agent brings with it. Automatic approval is opt-in as an allow-all mode in the agent pane, works with Copilot, Claude, Codex and Gemini through their native approval modes, and can be controlled by administrator policy. API keys for local and OpenAI-compatible models are stored in Windows Credential Manager. Its performance numbers are labelled debug benchmarks that depend on workload.

How it compares

The version, date and three features are supported, and supported agents means the four named agents through their own modes. The post does not state whether it is experimental or preview, and a secondary page calls it an experimental open-source fork of Windows Terminal, so that status is unverified first-party. Warp also documents agent auto-approve, so first-class is not unique to Microsoft's terminal, and the two were not compared by date. That the shell stopped being a spectator is the author's opinion.
