the wasm spec jumped a whole major version. release 3.0, out september 8, adds multiple memories and typeful references to the core standard.
the sandbox spec caught up to what runtimes shipped years ago.
Context
The WebAssembly site's news post, published September 17, 2025, announces Wasm 3.0 as complete, and its feature list includes multiple memories and typed references. The W3C core specification draft pages seen in snippets, a Candidate Recommendation Draft of 27 May 2026 and living-spec snapshots dated 2026-09-21 and 2026-10-03, show release 3.0 as a living draft.
The note's September 8 date is not supported by any source read, since the first-party announcement is September 17, 2025, and the 2026 pages are drafts or snapshots of a living spec, a different window. No implementation-support table was inspected, so there is no evidence here about when runtimes shipped these features and the sandbox spec caught up to what runtimes shipped years ago is the author's opinion. W3C Recommendation status was not checked.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
